Looked at the mixed reviews, but the price was right so I gave it a try. Followed instructions for basic vanilla. AWESOME! It’s very easy to create the mixes for freezing in the unit. Can eat it right after the mix/freeze process, or place in freezer for a couple of hours after using the unit to “ripen”. This gives a more familiar frozen dessert product texture that you would get at the store. I’m sold on it. Makes just the right amount, easy cleanup and DELICIOUS!

This is an excellent product that is incredibly easy to use. Ice cream is ready in 30 minutes TOPS. I bought it to make ice cream for my son who has a milk allergy, so I use almond milk or soy milk and it works great! Highly recommended.

What an excellent purchase. I didn’t know these types of ice cream makers existed until a friend of mine recommended it. It was well worth the money. I’ll probably not buy ice cream from a market again.

My sister requested an ice cream maker for her birthday, so I did a little research and ended up buying this one for her. There were others that were bigger and more intimidating, and I though this one just looked like her style. Let me just say–although I’ve never gotten to taste the fruits of her labor–I know she went crazy for the machine trying out lots of different recipes and testing out her own flavor combinations. The only thing I remember my sister having and issue with was remembering to freeze the bowl the night before use to make the ice cream hard enough. Other than that, she’s had a great time with it. My dad thought the machine was so cool that he eventually made me help him buy one for my aunt’s birthday as well.

Got this as an extra, item is exactly the same as came with the product.

Great to have a second bowl ready when making a big batch of Ice Cream.

I purchased the Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream/yogurt maker from Amazon several weeks ago. Enjoyed it so much I ordered an additional freezer bowl- also for a Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream maker. Unfortunately I threw away the box it came in before I tried out the new bowl. To my surprise (and dismay) it didn’t fit. Without the packaging, it was unreturnable (my fault). Who would have thought Cuisinart would make two different 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream makers?! Valuable lesson learned.

I read other people’s recommendation to get another freezer bowl, so I did – what a life saver! thank you all!! xxoo!!! They are not kidding – if you are expecting more than 3 or 4 people, the extra bowl is a must. Also, for those of you toying with ice cream mixes – Dean Jacobs all the way. It is by far the best. You can really taste the quality – just like dairy queen’s it is that smooth. Recipe calls for 1 cp heavy cream and 1 cp whole milk. Use 1.5 or 2 cps heavy cream with the 1 cp whole milk – maybe thats what makes it so smooth?

We love this ice cream maker. It is so easy. It’s not too noisy and it is easy to clean. I have only made two batches so far but they came out great. It makes about a quart which is perfect for our family of four. We each get about a cup so you won’t sit there and eat the whole carton by yourself! You will need a container to store ice cream in. When it first comes out, it is like thick soft serve. If you want it more solid, you need to transfer it to the freezer but you can’t use the maker to do that. I bought the Ben & Jerry recipe book, too and I am looking forward to trying their recipes out.

It works great if you don’t wash it with hot, hot water after use… otherwise it loses its ability to chill again…. enjoy.

I purchased my Cuisinart 1-1/2-Quart Additional Freezer Bowl, fits ICE-20 Ice Cream Maker February 6, 2002 from Amazon for $29.99 and it still works great! I noticed the price has come down. Can’t say that about many things…

It is a great little machine. Lot more handy and a lot more mess without the ice or salt.

This is a great food machine purchase. I found it easy to use and clean. I read the instruction manual prior to using it to make sure I understood any warning or tips.
The best tip is to make sure your freezer bowl is frozen in advance. It has liquid inside that must freeze completely prior to use.
Here’s my main thoughts on it:
I put the machine together in about 3 minutes.
I used the recipe booklet included to make my first batch of vanilla ice cream.
I like that it makes the recipes from scratch. I can use organic ingredients if I so desired.
I fed a family of three with the ice cream dispensed from it. We were all very happy with the results.
One thing I noticed is the size of the machine needs open space and may not fit under most counters.
If we didnt eat all the ice cream immediately, I place a tupperware bowl underneath the spout. Placed it in the freezer. It did not get hard after a few hours in the freezer. So it can be made ahead of time or during dinner.

I would recommend the machine to another person.

Got his as a gift for Christmas…what a thoughtful friend! We live far out into the country and getting ice cream home during the summer is almost impossible..even with freezer bags, ice chests, etc, the store bought ice cream is often runny. We just got used to the idea that we could not have fancy grocery store ice cream during July and August :(
As long as you follow the instructions and keep the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer (I keep the bowl in our spare frig’s top freezer, so it is not often opened), it makes decent soft serve ice cream. Take the time to read the other reviews and you can learn alot about how to operate this Cuisinart…it’s very simple, but there are a few “tricks” to make it even easier.
The only additional advice I can add, is to buy the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream recipe book with this and make some FANTASTIC ice cream. Just follow the instructions for making soft serve and after about 12 minutes, dump the soft serve into a tupperware bowl and freeze for a few hours – delicious!! The ice cream will taste as good (if not better) than the most expensive ice cream and costs very, very little.
This unit is simple and easy to operate. Making the ice cream mix is easy and cleanup is a snap.
Probably the nicest and most fun gift we have ever received!

Make sure your freezer is zero degrees and follow the instructions, it is that easy. Takes a little longer than 20 minutes to get the consistancy I like 30 minutes is more like it. Great soft serve, will stand right up in a cone no problem.

After reviewing what everybody else has written I have learned
that you have to keep this freezer bowl in the back of your
freezer just to make ice cream. I can make some flavor and
put that in my freezer and make some ice cream without buying
this machine on my own. I want a self contained ice cream
maker that can make a product by plugging it in the wall
without a freezer in sight. So I guess this product is
    not for me.

I love this machine! I made sugar free ice cream and it was great! I did leave it in a little longer that I should and it wouldn’t dispense, but that was my fault. I plan to use this alot. You can make a batch, then freeze it. I can’t wait to try a sorbet recipe.

I was a little skeptical about buying this but when I found a 30% off coupon, I figured I’d go ahead and splurge.

The Good: Love the color. You can get really creative with what you make in it – you can adjust the amount of sugar, use organic ingredients, and make whatever wild concoctions you can dream up. It’s easy to set up and clean and you can dismantle it and store it in the box if counterspace is limited. The final product really is ready in 20-30 minutes and kids will enjoy watching the ice cream freeze right before their eyes. This is great to pull out at a party – be sure to purchase a couple of spare bowls to freeze since it doesn’t hold that much.

The Not So Good: The first time I used this I let it go for too long and it wouldn’t dispense in a stream – more like large ice cream drops. Then when it dispensed into the bowl it practically melted on contact with the bowl. The mixing blade holds onto a lot of ice cream when you lift the lid. You don’t have too much time to clear it off before it starts dripping/melting everywhere. If the bowl is super cold, the ice cream sticks to the sides of the bowl and it can be difficult to get it all out – you’ll need a stiff spoon but not a metal spoon. I can’t find spare freezer bowls in pink – I had to buy a couple of white ones so I could use this during parties. They are pretty large so you need a fair amount of space in the freezer.

Recommendations: Be patient and don’t expect the first couple of runs to be perfect. It takes practice to get the hang of how long you need to run it and it will vary based on what you make in it. Make sure your ingredients are very cold before putting them into the frozen bowl – the liquid that hits the bowl first will freeze on contact. I actually mix my ingredients and put them into the freezer for about a half hour, take it out of the freezer, mix well and then add them into the ice cream machine. I also dispense into chilled bowls instead of room temperature bowls.

Overall: This is a good product. There is a learning curve with this but once you get the hang of it, it’s very easy to use. It’s super quick and if you have several extra bowls you can make a bunch of different frozen treats at a time. I love the fact that I know what’s going into my ice cream and there’s no chemicals or strange ingredients like guar gum and carrageenan. I really like this and use it at least a few times a month.

I bought this item for my 11 year old daughter for Christmas. The whole family loves it. I no longer have to buy ice-cream from the store. We just make it and freeze it now. It is also a way to stay healthier because you can choose how much sugar and other ingredients you put in it. The only thing is I wish I would have gotten white and not pink because it is quite tall and has to stay on the counter top.
