Reply to the comment posted by J.Sanders. This comment is TOTALLY TRUE AND HONEST. I had exactly the same experience, and when I bought mine from Chef Central it was on promotion for $45. I was SO excited to make ice cream. I made Cookies and Cream, Cottage Cheese Ice Cream and Rose (Yes, Rose essence) ice cream. I have incredible gourmet recipes. But the results were appaling. I had exactly the same experience. Even more. My husband decided to put the whole machine in the freezer (I know a brand like that) passing the wire thru the door. I turned on my spare freezer just for that. And you know what? Mushy ice cream! It took me the whole day after trying many ways, like refreezing the bowls. At the end of the day I was frustrated and disappointed, so I washed and packed everything for return. We learn by mistakes. WON’T BUY anything cheap that is made in China EVER AGAIN!!! SHAME ON YOU CUISINART!!! Regardless of the thousands of positive reviews here, they are fake. Unless they don’t know for sure what a good ice cream looks like or they are ALL from people of CUISINART. They surely have so many computers, they can write loads of good reviews creating new accounts. People, always read the negative reviews. If they are not too bad, then buy it. Otherwise keep away. This is my advice. I write honestly and am not doing a campaign against Cuisinart, just tired of being mislead by companies. Time to expose then. For a better USA!

Very good product, works just as advertised. My ONLY gripe is that it gtakes so long to freeze the unit. LOL

I bought this for a Father’s day gift for my dad. My mom was so happy that I did. She likes that the original bowl is black so that she can tell when she puts one back in the freezer which one to use next. They practically make ice cream every day and you have to freeze the bowls at least 24 hours or they don’t make the ice cream hard enough. So if they do use them every day she can tell that she used the silver one Tuesday so Wednesday she will use the black one. I will definately order one for myself now!

Ice cream maker worked well but why are there no included covers for the ice cream bowls? Directions say to “transfer” ice cream to an airtight container but that seems like an extra unnecessary hassle.

I had ordered the Cuisinart Ice Cream maker and liked it so much I decided to order an extra container to make more ice cream at one time ;-)

Make sure your freezer is zero degrees and follow the instructions, it is that easy. Takes a little longer than 20 minutes to get the consistancy I like 30 minutes is more like it. Great soft serve, will stand right up in a cone no problem.

After reviewing what everybody else has written I have learned
that you have to keep this freezer bowl in the back of your
freezer just to make ice cream. I can make some flavor and
put that in my freezer and make some ice cream without buying
this machine on my own. I want a self contained ice cream
maker that can make a product by plugging it in the wall
without a freezer in sight. So I guess this product is
    not for me.

Got his as a gift for Christmas…what a thoughtful friend! We live far out into the country and getting ice cream home during the summer is almost impossible..even with freezer bags, ice chests, etc, the store bought ice cream is often runny. We just got used to the idea that we could not have fancy grocery store ice cream during July and August :(
As long as you follow the instructions and keep the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer (I keep the bowl in our spare frig’s top freezer, so it is not often opened), it makes decent soft serve ice cream. Take the time to read the other reviews and you can learn alot about how to operate this Cuisinart…it’s very simple, but there are a few “tricks” to make it even easier.
The only additional advice I can add, is to buy the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream recipe book with this and make some FANTASTIC ice cream. Just follow the instructions for making soft serve and after about 12 minutes, dump the soft serve into a tupperware bowl and freeze for a few hours – delicious!! The ice cream will taste as good (if not better) than the most expensive ice cream and costs very, very little.
This unit is simple and easy to operate. Making the ice cream mix is easy and cleanup is a snap.
Probably the nicest and most fun gift we have ever received!

This is a great food machine purchase. I found it easy to use and clean. I read the instruction manual prior to using it to make sure I understood any warning or tips.
The best tip is to make sure your freezer bowl is frozen in advance. It has liquid inside that must freeze completely prior to use.
Here’s my main thoughts on it:
I put the machine together in about 3 minutes.
I used the recipe booklet included to make my first batch of vanilla ice cream.
I like that it makes the recipes from scratch. I can use organic ingredients if I so desired.
I fed a family of three with the ice cream dispensed from it. We were all very happy with the results.
One thing I noticed is the size of the machine needs open space and may not fit under most counters.
If we didnt eat all the ice cream immediately, I place a tupperware bowl underneath the spout. Placed it in the freezer. It did not get hard after a few hours in the freezer. So it can be made ahead of time or during dinner.

I would recommend the machine to another person.

This is the best ice cream scoop I’ve ever used. It cuts through even hard ice cream like a hot knife through butter, and the handle is extremely comfortable – thick and substantial so it can cut through the ice cream without a hint of bending, but contoured to fit the hand.

  10. Naus on June 24th, 2010 5:31 am

No, seriously, when I want ice cream, the last thing I want is some crappy spoon or chintzy and totally ineffective plastic scoop standing between me and my bliss. This scoop is pretty awesome. Scoops ice cream like room temperature butter. It feels nice and solid in hand and is nicely balanced without being ridiculously heavy, easy to clean- no moving parts, not flimsy or crappy in any way. I’d get two, at least, one for each hand.

  11. Geyser on June 25th, 2010 5:28 am

The best ice cream scoop I’ve ever used.

This is my second Cuisinart item purchase and I’m NOT disappointed.

  12. Bigge on June 26th, 2010 5:21 am

As simple as this device is, it does it’s job very well. The pointed end makes easy work of scooping even the hardest ice cream. The handle provides good leverage, and the ergonomic shape is very comfortable. Not all ice cream scoops are the same, and this one is a cut above the rest. Great price too!

  13. Moritz on June 27th, 2010 5:22 am

Great to have a second bowl ready when making a big batch of Ice Cream.

  14. Hammer on June 28th, 2010 5:01 am

I read other people’s recommendation to get another freezer bowl, so I did – what a life saver! thank you all!! xxoo!!! They are not kidding – if you are expecting more than 3 or 4 people, the extra bowl is a must. Also, for those of you toying with ice cream mixes – Dean Jacobs all the way. It is by far the best. You can really taste the quality – just like dairy queen’s it is that smooth. Recipe calls for 1 cp heavy cream and 1 cp whole milk. Use 1.5 or 2 cps heavy cream with the 1 cp whole milk – maybe thats what makes it so smooth?

I purchased the Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream/yogurt maker from Amazon several weeks ago. Enjoyed it so much I ordered an additional freezer bowl- also for a Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream maker. Unfortunately I threw away the box it came in before I tried out the new bowl. To my surprise (and dismay) it didn’t fit. Without the packaging, it was unreturnable (my fault). Who would have thought Cuisinart would make two different 1 1/2 quart soft serve ice cream makers?! Valuable lesson learned.

  16. Kubeck on June 30th, 2010 5:35 am

Got this as an extra, item is exactly the same as came with the product.

  17. Frear on July 1st, 2010 5:11 am

I love this machine! It’s perfect because of the flexibility; if I want a lot of one flavor I can use both bowls for the same kind or I can easily make two different kinds. Since I don’t do dairy products this has saved me so much money and hassle in avoiding the dreaded $6+ a pint non-dairy ice creams.

My only complaint about this ice cream maker is not having gotten it sooner!

  18. Gillespie on July 2nd, 2010 5:10 am

Freezes fast, quiet operation, a good product.I am glad we bought the dual container one instead of the single chamber.

I was a little skeptical when this came home because we have used the salt style machines with not great success. With in 20 minutes we had some tasty strawberry and mint chocolate chip ice cream. It’s great you can make 2 different flavors at once. We cut the recommended sugar in half to make it even healthier, and the recipe was still great! Simple, easy to find ingredients makes this easy for anybody. Also tweaking the receipes a little to your individual taste has been fun too. When it was finished it wasn’t liquid like at all, but a nice consistency. This is an amazing product and I highly recommend it. Kids love helping, and clean up is super easy. Cant wait to try some summer time drinks.
