Having not used a ice cream maker since the old fashioned kind with ice and salt- this is quite the item. You do need to make sure the bowl is frozen and that your ice cream mixture is completly cooled. Also, after freezing, it will need time in the freezer to “cure” as the old fashioned kind did. Depending on the consistencey that you like anywhere from a couple hours to overnight. We have tried several different recipes and I think you can adjust any to your liking. Just use the basic 4 ingredients- milk, whipping cream, sugar, and eggs. Also makes great ices, and sherberts for low fat options.

The Cuisinart frozen yoghurt maker has far more to it than meets the eye.  Not only will it produce up to a huge 2 quarts of frozen yoghurt depending on which model you choose, it will also create fabulous ice creams, delicious sorbets and thirst quenching frozen drinks as well.

There are many outlets on and offline that sell the Cuisinart frozen yoghurt maker, but because it is so popular you ned to make sure that you are getting the cuisinart ice cream yogurt sorbet maker very best deal and not paying too much.

The advantages of choosing a Cuisinart frozen yoghurt maker is that it puts you completely in the driver's seat when it comes to ingredients.  Many who choose to make their own yoghurt at home realise that shop bought yoghurts are not quite what they seem.

A typical 100g pot of low fat yoghurt can contain 16.4g carbohydrate of which sugars 15.8g.  In plain english that means that there is approximately 5 teaspoons of sugar in that innocent little pot.

The sugar used in generally refined sugar which is not good for us.  So you may believe that you are being healthy and eating sensibly, as yoghurts are a well known dieters dessert, but could easily be eating ingredients that are not as good as the packaging professes.

By using the Cuisinart frozen yoghurt maker you can cut out refined sugar completely and substitute with either unrefined or fructose, which is a naturally occuring fruit sugar.  The fruit that you add can be organic as well.  It is up to you how fresh and natural, how creamy or low fat and how sweet you make it.

Ice Cream Maker help?
So I just bought a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker and I really liked it at first. I made up my own recipe of a container of yoplait thick and creamy light yogurt, some strawberries (pureed), half a banana (pureed), some mangos (diced) from a container with some of there sweet syrup added in, 1 cup milk, cuisinart ice cream yogurt sorbet maker and a half cup of sugar. I put it in the bowl that I froze (I froze it for about 4.5 hours till I couldnt here the liquid moving) and started churning away. The result was pretty decent and it came out to a thick smoothie texture (probably becuase I didn't freeze the bowl enough). I decided to put it in the freezer to harden overnight and now it is a SOLID BLOCK. It looks like I didnt even attempt to use an ice cream maker and just threw in yogurt and froze it. What do I do??? How do I keep my recipes from freezing so hard? And if you have never used an ice cream maker please don't bother answering just for points. Thanks!!! :)

This is a fun product! You do need to freeze the bowl before use, so as long as you realize that, you should be good. And my first batch was the Vanilla Bean. It was/is to die for. Had I read the directions THOROUGHLY, I would have seen that this particular recipe requires the custard (which you make from scratch) is to be chilled thoroughly prior to mixing it in the machine. This recipe takes a little time but boy is it worth it!! I am sad that the other guy left a bad review for the machine when his beef was with the company’s customer service before even ORDERING it. I like the first guy’s idea of buying an extra freezer bowl (if you have the storage space). They include recipes for ritas, gelattos, slushies, floats, sorbet, etc. LOTS of fun!

The info Amazon provides says it’s fully automatic, just put the ingredients in and it does the rest. That’s not accurate, you must do a little mixing work to prepare the ice cream recipe, then pour it into the machine and then it freezes it. I have made some very good ice creams from both ultra-rich recipes and less-fattening ones, with the final hard-freeze happening in individual dishes in my freezer (easier to serve). You can also indulge in eating it as a soft-serve, and not bother to freeze it harder. Homemade ice cream freezes VERY hard in your freezer, so if you go that route, set it out on the counter about 10 or 15 minutes before you want to eat some. It softens up some and also tastes better.

I am concerned about the number of people who said their cannister didnt do the job of freezing the mixture. I think there IS something wrong with their cannister, not the recipe, and not their use of the machine. That’s something to take into consideration. If you buy it, try it out right away, a couple of times, make sure all is well, and return it promptly if you don’t get the contents to freeze to at least soft-serve stiffness at about 30 to 40 minutes.

Yes, it’s a little noisy. You could put it in the laundry room or the garage if you hate the sound it makes. I dont think it’s that bad, but it isnt silent, it does growl as it churns.

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream book is an excellent choice for recipes, by the way. I bought it, and am delighted! For diabetics, Splenda works very well for sorbet and ice cream recipes. You might like to experiment with Splenda, and perhaps add more to your recipe after you try out one or two — the sweetness does diminish a little, but the taste is still very good, with no artificial flavor overtones.

THIS CUISINART ICE CREAM MAKER IS AWESOME. I WAS NOT SURE HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO MAKE ICE CREAM BUT IN NO TIME AT ALL IT CAME TOGETHER. NOW YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO SEE HOW LONG YOU CAN CRANK IT, OR MAKE SURE YOU DON’T GET THE ROCK SALT DOWN IN IT, OR BE ABLE TO DARE YOUR BROTHER ON WHO CAN HOLD THEIR HAND IN THE COLD WATER THE LONGEST – IT’S THE SIGN OF THE TIMES. WHAT MEMORIES !!!! HAPPY EATING !!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ICE CREAM MAKER.

I waited anxiously for this machine and got it on time. The machine is not noisy, except as a machine. It does makes great tasting ice cream. BUT. Both batches I made haven’t evn been slushy material at the end of 30 minutes. The bottom of the containere is frozen, BUT only along the rim of the bottom of the container, the rest is not capable of holding shape. It would have to be poured into a glass and drinken. I pour it into a 2 quart plastic container and put it into the freezer to set. Tastes delicious, but only after 2 or 3 hours in the freezer. I wish it would come out as ice cream! I have not made anything other than ice cream, but the shorbet looks interesting. Making the simple suger isn’t too difficult and one can make big batches for future use.

The icecream maker is great. Easy to use and comes with a load of very nice recipes. Great for people who need to restrict their sugar or arfical product intake. You make icecream just the way you like it. Shipping fast and right on time.

I was gravely disappointed with this ice cream maker. After the product is made (ice cream or yogurt) you best eat the mix right away. If not, when you place the mix into the freeze for storage to eat at a later date it will turn into a piece of ice block and nothing relating to ice cream or frozen yogurt. I will not waste my time with this product.

This machine works really well. We have been very careful to have the freezing tub fully frozen and ingredients cold before making ice cream. the ice cream finishes more like soft serve than traditional ice cream so plan on making it 3-4 hours prior to eating if you like the ice cream to be firmer. Sorbets turn out great too. I would give it 5 stars if ice cream came out firmer but overall you will be pleased if you take care to get tub fully frozen and ingredients cold before starting the process.

I have milk allergies and was sure I would never taste ice cream again, but I made a coconut milk based sorbet that was better than any I’ve ever bought, when I could even find one.
Easy to use, easy to clean, great results, but so noisy I had to put earplugs in.
There is nothing about the noise that “fades away”. It’s up front and annoying.
I like everything else about it, so I have to decide to either keep it, or put it on the porch and let the neighbors suffer, when I use it.

An excellent machine. It’s very simple to operate and very easy to clean. I’ve been using it for about a month, and I’ve made various sorbets with it. It’s great for dinner parties; the smiles on guest’s faces when they eat freshly made sorbet establish you as the “host with the most”. If you like ice cream and sorbet, and always wanted to make your own, this is the machine to get.

    Pros:
Excellent appearance, one of the few appliances I have out on my counter, get compliments/questions frequently.
Works well (makes a great cinnamon chocolate ice cream!)
    Great warranty
    Very durable ice bowl

    Cons:
Even with a solid freeze of the bowl you’ll need to put the ice cream in the freezer for an hour or two afterwards. Just too soft for more than a little taste.
Slightly cheap inner ice cream mixer apparatus (plastic on plastic gears/blades)
Any heavy mixings added towards end still fall to bottom due to soft consistency and poor stirring

I’ve only used this once, to make plain vanilla ice cream (following the recipe in the manual), and the ice cream was excellent. Like other machines out there, it is a bit deceiving to think you can have fresh ice cream made in 30 minutes; the reality is the inside container must be frozen for hours before-hand, and many recipes require that the mix be refrigerated for several hours before being made. It is also a fairly loud machine while in use, so I won’t be using it when my children are sleeping. The end result, however, is very good.

I love this machine! It’s perfect because of the flexibility; if I want a lot of one flavor I can use both bowls for the same kind or I can easily make two different kinds. Since I don’t do dairy products this has saved me so much money and hassle in avoiding the dreaded $6+ a pint non-dairy ice creams.

My only complaint about this ice cream maker is not having gotten it sooner!

Freezes fast, quiet operation, a good product.I am glad we bought the dual container one instead of the single chamber.

I was a little skeptical when this came home because we have used the salt style machines with not great success. With in 20 minutes we had some tasty strawberry and mint chocolate chip ice cream. It’s great you can make 2 different flavors at once. We cut the recommended sugar in half to make it even healthier, and the recipe was still great! Simple, easy to find ingredients makes this easy for anybody. Also tweaking the receipes a little to your individual taste has been fun too. When it was finished it wasn’t liquid like at all, but a nice consistency. This is an amazing product and I highly recommend it. Kids love helping, and clean up is super easy. Cant wait to try some summer time drinks.

The Cuisinart ICE-40 icemaker is GREAT! I’ve made three batches of ice cream so far, and every one has turned out perfect. I control how hard the ice cream gets because I can look down into the container as it is turning, and can tell when it’s getting to a good consistency. I’ve even played with the recipes a little by using whole milk instead of heavy whipping cream in the vanilla, and it works just as well! I don’t miss the rock-salt-and-ice mess I always got from my old electric ice cream maker.

This is an excellent product that is incredibly easy to use. Ice cream is ready in 30 minutes TOPS. I bought it to make ice cream for my son who has a milk allergy, so I use almond milk or soy milk and it works great! Highly recommended.
